Entre sus numerosas obras destacan \u201cMemoria del fuego\u201d, \u201cLos d\u00edas siguientes\u201d, \u201cGuatemala, pa\u00eds ocupado\u201d, \u201cSu majestad el f\u00fatbol\u201d, \u201cEl f\u00fatbol a sol y sombra\u201d, \u201cCr\u00f3nicas latinoamericanas\u201d, \u201cLa contrase\u00f1a\u201d, \u201c\u00daselo y t\u00edrelo\u201d, \u201cPatas arriba. La escuela del mundo al rev\u00e9s\u201d y la universalmente reconocida \u201cLas venas abiertas de Am\u00e9rica Latina\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Su obra se distingui\u00f3 por trascender g\u00e9neros ortodoxos y combinar documental, ficci\u00f3n, periodismo, an\u00e1lisis pol\u00edtico e historia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Uno de los episodios m\u00e1s complicados de su vida fue superar el c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n que lo aquejaba y del que sali\u00f3 airoso en 2007.
